SAN DIEGO -- Dee Gordon stole second base on a pitch-out in the third inning, and later scored. It was the 39th steal of the season, giving Gordon an eight-steal advantage over Billy Hamilton of the Reds.
On the night, Gordon was 1-for-3 with an run batted in, two walks and two runs scored. Gordon in his last five games has six walks, is hitting .333 (6-for-18), and has scored seven runs.
Gordon is on pace for 83 steals, and has kept pace with Maury Wills, who also had 39 steals through 76 team games in 1962, the year he set a then-record with 104 steals.
The fastest to 40 stolen bases in Dodgers history was Wills, who needed only 62 team games in 1965 to reach the milestone, a season that saw him steal 94 bases. Wills in 1962 stole his 40th base in the Dodgers' 77th game of the season.
