Minor League Player of the Day – Jesmuel Valentin (LoA) - 4 for 5, two doubles, one run, one walk, one stolen base. Valentin continues to produce a high on-base percentage, this season it is .364 in 280+ plate appearances.
AAA – After losing on Thursday to Reno, Albuquerque had a doubleheader with the Aces (Diamondbacks) on Friday night. Despite trailing late in both games, the Isotopes would score enough late to take both games by the same 3-2 score.
In the first game, Carlos Frias pitched a complete seven inning game for the win by a 3-2 score. Frias allowed two runs (one earned), eight hits and struck out five. Recent call-up Brian Cavazos-Galvez was the offensive hero, hitting a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of seventh for the win. Mike Baxter had tied the game with his own solo home run in the sixth inning. Walter Ibarra started the Isotopes' scoring with a one-run home run in the bottom of the second.
In the second game, just activated Stephen Fife collected the second win of the day for the Isotopes. Fife pitched six innings, allowing one run, five hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena tripled and scored on an error to tie the game. Later that same inning, Griff Erickson would walk with the bases loaded to score the second run of the inning. Cavazos-Galvez.drove in the ultimate winning run with a sacrifice fly.
AA – Andres Santiago and four relievers kept the Blue Wahoos (Reds) from scoring more than three runs which wasn't enough as the Lookouts won 7-3. Blake Smith recorded his second save. Noel Cuevas had two triples among his three hits. Darnell Sweeney went 1 for 3 but also walked twice and scored three runs.
HiA – 66ers (Angels) scored two runs on a home run off Julio Urias to take the early lead but Quakes would squeeze out three runs to beat Inland Empire 3-2. Urias pitched four innings, allowed those two runs, two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Geoff Brown got the win and Daniel Coulombe recorded the save.
LoA -- The Loons scored first and last but still lost to the Lugnuts (Blue Jays) 6-4. Brandon Martinez pitched the first five innings for the Loons. Martinez struck out 10 in five innings, gave up two runs, three hits and two walks.
In the eleventh inning, the Lugnuts scored three runs and then held on as the Loons try to comeback but they could only score one more run.
Jesmuel Valentin went 4 for 5 with two doubles, Alex Santana homered as he went 3 for 5.
Rookie Ogden – Ogden lost a pair a games to the Owls (Angels) by 6-3 and 7-4 scores.
Rookie Arizona – White Sox scored three runs early but the Dodgers put up a pair of fours to win 8-5.
DSL – Dominican Rays defeated the Dodgers 5-0. Listed at six foot, eight inches, Miguel Urena pitched five innings for the Dodgers, giving up two runs, six hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Coming up – Jeff Bennett tries to continue the winning for the Isotopes, Raydel Sanchez pitches for the Lookouts, Lindsay Caughel toes the rubber for the Quakes, Scott Barlow to the mound for the Loons, Jose E. De Leon starts for the Raptors. The Arizona and Dominican Summer League Dodgers also play.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: Pitcher Stephan Fife activated from disabled list; Pitcher Steve Smith and catcher John Cannon placed on disabled list. AA: Outfielder Bobby Coyle activated from disabled list. LoA: Pitcher Mark Pope activated from disabled list, and LHP Michael Johnson was placed on the DL. Dominican Summer League: Pitcher Edward Perez assigned to DSL Dodgers.
