Dodgers take RHP Brock Stewart in 6th round of MLB Draft

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

NEW YORK, NY -- The Dodgers on Friday selected right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart from Illinois State with their sixth-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, No. 189 overall. He is the third college pitcher taken by the Dodgers in the last four rounds.

Stewart, a 6'3, 210-pound right-hander is redshirt junior. The slot amount for the No. 189 overall pick is $222,200

He was 3-2 with a 2.36 ERA in 11 games as a senior for Illinois State in 2014, with 30 strikeouts and eight walks in 26⅔ innings. He also hit .238/.317/.396 as a third baseman.

The Mets in 2010 drafted Stewart in the 40th and final round as an infielder, but he opted instead to enroll at Illinois State, where he played for four years. Stewart's father Jeff is a scout for the Padres.

Stewart missed most of the 2012 season with a broken foot and used a medical redshirt.
