MLB Draft 2014: Dodgers pick Hunter Redman in 8th round

NEW YORK, NY -- The Dodgers took their first catcher of the 2014 MLB Draft, selected Texas Tech backstop Hunter Redman in the eighth round on Friday, with pick No. 249 overall. Redman is the fifth college player selected in six picks so far on Friday.

Redman has hit .252/.275/.288 in 44 games this season for the Red Raiders, who host College of Charleston in a best-of-three Super Regional over three days beginning Saturday for the right to head to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Redman's college career has included three schools in three years, starting with Texas in 2012, Midland College in 2013, then to Texas Tech in 2014, where both his father and brother played baseball. The Dodgers drafted Redman's brother Reid, a third baseman, in the 37th round in 2011, but did not sign him.

The slot value for the No. 249 overall pick is $154,500.
