Minor League Player of the Day – Corey Seager (HiA) - 3 for 5, 2 HR, 4 RBI's, 2 Runs. Seager leads the Cal League in OPS, Slugging, and doubles.
AAA – The Isotopes were swept as the Rainiers (Mariners) took both 7-inning games of the double header, 5 - 3 and 4 - 2. In game 1, Carlos Frias pitched a "complete game" as he went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs, 9 hits, 1 walk and striking out 2. Old friend Todd Coffey pitched 1 inning to get the win. Joc Pederson was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a run scored, Alex Leddi was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Johnny Monell was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a double.
In game 2, Steve Smith was tagged with 4 runs, 7 hits and 2 strikeouts in 4.2 innings, Pedro Baez went 1.1 innings with 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Clint Robinson homered and scored both runs in the game. Joc Pederson was 1 for 4. Johnny Monell was 3 for 3.
AA – The Lookouts took a 5 - 2 lead and held on to defeat Mississippi (Braves) 5 - 4. Tyson Brummett had another mediocre/poor start, going just 4 innings and he allowed 4 runs (3 earned), 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Brummett had walked just 5 in his first 45 innings pitched, in his last three starts, he's walked 9 in 14 innings. Juan Gonzalez, Juan Ramon Noriega and Josh Ravin held the Braves scoreless with Gonzalez getting the win and Ravin posting his first save. Darnell Sweeney was 2 for 4, Ryan Adams went 3 for 5, O'Koyea Dickson homered and was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Scott Schebler was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. A side note, the Lookouts had 15 hits but no walks and only 3 strikeouts.
HiA – The Quakes combined for 15 hits as they won 7 to 3 over the Blaze (Reds). Jharel Cotton was solid, going 7 innings, 2 runs (1 earned), 4 hits and 6 strikeouts. Adam Law was 3 for 5 and Brandon Dixon was 2 for 4. Corey Seager was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI. Jon Garcia and Robbie Garvey were also 2 for 4.
LoA – The Whitecaps (Tigers) got out to a 2 - 0 lead and never lost it, winning 4 - 2 over the Loons. Victor Arano did not pitch well giving up 3 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 innings. Jesmuel Valentin and Paul Hoenecke were 2 for 4. Joey Curletta was 1 for 3.
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers had nearly as many errors, 4, as they did hits, 6, in their 6 - 0 shutout loss to the Athletics. Robert Fernandez pitched well despite the loss, in 4 innings, he gave 1 run, 1 hit while walking 3. Samuel Ortiz was 1 for 2 with 3 walks.
Coming up – Red Patterson takes the mound for the Isotopes at 5:05 pm PST. Chris Reed toes the rubber for the Lookouts at 4:00 pm, Geoff Brown throws for the Quakes at 7:05 pm, and Jonathan Martinez returns to start for the Loons at 4:05 pm. The Dominican Dodgers play at 7:30 am.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: Miguel Rojas was added to the Dodgers (his contract was purchased and he was added to the active roster. HiA: Rob Rogers was added to the Quakes roster while Jack McGeary was removed for the time being.
