Minor League Player of the Day – Lindsey Caughel (HiA) - 7 IP, 0 Runs, 0 walks, 9 K's. Caughel continues to shine in the second half of the season as he has allowed just 1 run over 26 innings since the All Star break. AAA – The game between the Isotopes and Chihuahuas (Padres) was suspended after just 1 inning with El Paso leading 3 to 2. So far Joc Pederson tripled in his first at bat since returning from the DL while Jamie Romak followed that up with a 2-run homer.
AA – Off day
HiA – The Quakes shutout the Storm (Padres) 3 - 0 to improve to 18 and 2 in the second half of the season. Starter Lindsey Caughel continued to do his best Clayton Kershaw impression as he extended his string of consecutive innings without an earned run allowed to 26. He also struck out 9 over 7 frames and did not walk a batter. Julio Urias actually threw in relief as the Dodgers are trying to limit his innings. Urias responded by striking out the side in the 8th. Daniel Coulombe then finished the game with a hitless 9th for his 5th save of the year. At the dish Aaron Miller connected on his 9th homer of the year, while James Baldwin drove in the other two runs with a double.
LoA – The Loons also won 3 to 0 on Wednesday as Great Lakes defeated Fort Wayne (Padres). Scott Barlow was great as he tossed 5 shutout frames, striking out 6 and allowing just 4 hits. Reliever Jordan Hershier threw two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.67, then Matt Campbell picked up his 2nd save of the year. On offense Josmar Cordero went 2 for 3 and his double was the club's only extra base hit. Webster Rivas had the only other multi-hit game as he also went 2 for 3.
Rookie Ogden – The Raptors pitching staff allowed just 4 hits on Wednesday in a 7 - 2 victory over the Voyagers (White Sox). Starter John Richy permitted just 1 hit over 3 scoreless frames, then Jose De Leon struck out 7 in his 5 innings of relief work. Lenix Osuna got the final 3 outs and did not give up a hit. While he didn't drive in a run, Theo Alexander was a perfect 4 for 4 with a double to lead the offense. Devan Ahart went 2 for 5 with a double and a triple while Ivan Vela drove in a pair with a two-bagger.
Rookie Arizona – Off day
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers continued their team struggles in a 5 - 1 loss to the Rays. The offense had just 4 hits in this game, and Moises Perez's double was the only one to go for extra bases. On the mound Miguel Urena threw well in the loss as he allowed just 2 hits and an unearned run over 5.1 innings. Gregor Mora struggled in relief, however, as he permitted the final 4 runs of the game to score.
Coming up – All seven minor league clubs play on Thursday, starting with Zach Lee and the Isotopes. Nick Struck takes the mound for the Lookouts, Fabio Martinez throws for the Quakes, and Victor Arano toes the rubber for the Loons. None of the rookie league starters have been announced.
