Dodgers 7/8/14 minor league report - Quakes, Loons both walk-off with wins

The Quakes and Loons both had walk-off victories while 2014 1st round pick Grant Holmes had another outstanding outing

Minor League Player of the Day Grant Holmes (Arizona Dodgers) - 4 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 4 K's.  Holmes' second professional appearance was just as impressive as his first as the 2014 1st round pick has now allowed just 1 hit over 6 innings and has struck out 9.

AAA – The Isotopes only scored in one inning on Tuesday and it wasn't enough in a 4 - 3 loss to El PasoTrayvon Robinson had an RBI single in the 3rd and then Jamie Romak followed that up with a 2-run double, but that was really it for the offense.  It should be noted, however, that Carl Crawford did go 2 for 2 with another triple as he continues his strong rehab performance.  On the mound Stephen Fife had a quality start as he allowed 5 hits and 2 runs over 6 frames, but reliever Robert Carson couldn't hold the slim lead he was given and took the loss

AA – The Lookouts downed the Suns (Marlins) 3 to 2 despite just 4 hits on Tuesday.  O'Koyea Dickson's solo homer and Darnell Sweeney's RBI double were the extent of the offense, but solid pitching made the 3 runs stand up.  Raydel Sanchez allowed just 5 hits and 1 run over 6 frames, then a trio of relievers got the final 9 outs.  Josh Ravin closed the door for his 3rd save of the year.

HiA – The Quakes had a 6 - 5, walk-off win over the Storm (Padres) courtesy of James Baldwin.  Baldwin, who had homered earlier in the game, drove in Steven Proscia in the bottom of the 11th to start the celebration.  Nobody else had more than one hit or an extra base hit for Rancho, although Corey Seager went 1 for 4 with a walk.  On the mound Chris Anderson struck out 7 over 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits.  Rob Rogers blew the save in the 9th however, while Geoff Brown picked up the win despite struggling a bit in the top of the 11th.

LoA – The Loons also had a walk-off win on Tuesday, this one coming via a home run in a 5 - 4 victory over Fort Wayne (Padres) Webster Rivas was the hero in this one as his solo shot in the bottom of the 9th was the clincher.  Josmar Cordero went 2 for 4 with a couple of doubles while Jesmuel Valentin was 2 for 3 with a triple.  Starter Brandon Martinez was solid on the mound as he tossed 6 strong innings and allowed just 1 run.  Mark Pope actually blew the save in the top of the 9th which then led to the walk-off later in the frame.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors rallied for 2 in the 9th but fell just short in a 3 - 2 loss to the Voyagers (White Sox).  Pinch hitter Ivan Vela was the one to get Ogden close as his 2-run shot brought his team within 1, but it just wasn't enough.  That homer turned out to be the only extra base hit of the game for the Raptors.  The loss wasted yet another strong starting pitching performance on Tuesday as Abdiel Velesquez allowed just 2 hits and 1 run over 5 frames.  Joe Broussard tossed the final 3 innings and gave up the other 2 runs.

Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodger pounded the Padres 17 to 1 on Tuesday.  Despite all the offense the highlight of the game was the pitching from 2014 1st round pick Grant Holmes as he allowed just 1 hit over 4 shutout innings.  Reliever Carlos Felix was also very good as he threw the final 5 frames and gave up just 3 hits and an unearned run.  At the dish almost everyone contributed as every starter had at least one hit.  Scott De Jong went 2 for 4 with a homer and 4 RBI's while Jared Walker also had 2 hits including a home run.  Deion Ulmer had a team high 3 hits and Alex Verdugo got his batting average about .300 with a couple of base knocks while also driving in 3.

DSL – The Dominican Dodgers had another late collapse as they fell to the Rays 8 to 7.  Despite a 5 run lead heading into the 9th, the Dodgers couldn't hold on as their bullpen really struggled.  This came after Osiris Ramirez threw 5 solid innings that included just 4 hits allowed and 0 earned runs.  The offense had a good game in the loss and Daniel Padilla led the way by going 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI's.  Carlos Mosquera also had a 3-bagger while Cristian Santana had 3 hits including a double.

Coming upLindsey Caughel will try and continue his recent hot streak with the Quakes as they play an early 10:35 am (PT) game, while Scott Barlow and the Loons play a little later at 4:05 pm.  The Isotopes and Raptors both play at around 6 pm and will have Jeff Bennett and John Richy on the mound, respectively, while the Lookouts and Arizona Dodgers have the day off.

Minor League Transactions – AAA: The recently signed Roger Bernadina was assigned to the Isotopes while Alex Liddi was sent down to Chattanooga.  HiA: Brandon Dixon was placed on the DL, with Dillon Moyer taking his place on the Rancho roster.  LoA: Faustino Oguisten was sent down to Great Lakes.
