Chris Anderson strikes out 11 in loss, Joc Pederson hits his 32nd home run

Minor League Player of the DayChris Anderson (HiA)  7 innings pitched, one run, six hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts. Anderson came out of the bullpen to start the second inning and he had his second straight solid appearance.

AAA A six run fourth inning gave the Isotopes the lead on Friday as they won over the Sky Sox (Rockies) 13 to 7.  Jeff Bennett won his eighth game, Bennett pitched 5.2 innings, gave up six runs (four earned), nine hits and two walks.  Bennett also struck out five.

The Isotopes had 20 hits and five walks that produced those 13 runs.  Leading the way was Joc Pederson who hit his 32nd home run and also stole his 29th base.  Pederson also walked twice and struck out twice.  Trayvon Robinson was 3 for 5 with four runs scored.  Tim Federowicz was 3 for 5 with three doubles. Clint Robinson was 3 for 5 with three RBI.  Alex Guerrero hit his 12th home run.  Jamie Romak and Carlos Triunfel also had two hits apiece.

AA – The Lookouts took an early lead and went on to defeat the Generals (Mariners) 7 to 3.  Andres Santiago gave up three runs in 7 innings of work.  Ralston Cash had pitched in relief for the Loons for most of the season and last week was promoted to AA.  Cash pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Corey Seager hit two doubles on Friday, giving him 13 in Chattanooga.  Counting the Cal League, Seager has hit 47 doubles in 2014.  Scott Schebler had a double and a triple.

HiA – The Quakes came home and saw the Ports (Athletics) score seven runs in the top of the first and that gave the Ports all they needed to win 8 to 3. Chris Perez started for the Quakes and was awful as he faced six batters, retired one and the other five scored.  Gustavo Gomez gave up the other two runs to put the Quakes down by seven.  But after the first, the Quakes saw Player of the Day, Chris Anderson, pitch seven outstanding innings, where he allowed one run and struck out 11.  Victor Araujo made his Cal League debut as he pitched a scoreless inning and he allowed a hit and a walk and struck out one.  Chris Jacobs and Pratt Maynard provided the offense, Jacobs hit his 24th home run and Maynard hit three doubles.

LoA – The Loons fell behind early and they could not catch up as they lost to the Hot Rods (Rays) 8 to 5. Scott Barlow started and he gave up five runs but only two were earned.  A.J. Vanegas made his Midwest League debut as he struck out one in 2 innings of work.  Josmar Cordero had three hits, Devan Ahart, Malcolm Holland and Alex Santana had two hits each.

Rookie Ogden – The rain came and canceled the game between the Raptors and Owlz (Angels).  Since this was their last meeting of the season, it will not be made up.

Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers had a one-run lead late in the game but then the Padres scored two runs in the eighth to defeat the Dodgers 7 to 6Brant Whiting was drafted in the 30th round of the 2014 draft and the Stanford catcher has 21 hits in his 52 at bats.  On Friday, Whiting was 1 for 3 with two walks.

DSL – The Dominican Dodgers and Royals game was canceled and it will likely not be made up.

Coming upBarry Enright takes the mound for the Isotopes on Saturday, while Nick Struck starts for the Lookouts. Julio Urias gets the ball for the Quakes, Luis De Paula throws for the Loons, and Jeff Brigham toes the rubber for the Raptors.  Arizona plays a doubleheader against the Rangers and it is the last scheduled game for the Dominican Dodgers.
