Minor League Player of the Day – Ariel Sandoval (Arizona) - 3 for 5, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 Run. It was slim pickings for this award, so I'm giving it to Sandoval after he collected 3 hits, including a triple, and scored the game winning run for his team.
AAA – The Isotopes were shutout by the RedHawks (Astros) 3 to 0 on Monday. The Albuquerque offense had just 6 hits in this one, with 3 of them coming off the bat of Walter Ibarra. Johnny Monell went 2 for 3 and Tim Federowicz connected on his 25th double of the year. Starter Matt Magill allowed just 2 hits and 1 run over his 5.2 innings of work, however he also walked 5 and struck out just 2. Bruce Billings threw the final 2.1 frames and gave up the other 2 runs.
AA – The Lookouts also had a quiet game at the plate on Monday as they fell to the Generals (Mariners) 2 to 1. Scott Schebler's 27th homer of the season resulted in Chattanooga's only run, while Chris O'Brien and Jeremy Hazelbaker both went 2 for 3. On the mound Steve Smith started the game with 6 shutout innings, but in the 7th he allowed a couple of singles and both of those runners came around to score after Daniel Coulombe entered the game in relief.
HiA – Off day
LoA – The Loons fell further back in the playoff race after a 2 - 0 loss to the Dragons (Reds). Zachary Bird allowed a couple of first inning runs, and even though he was solid after that and ended up striking out 9 batters in 5 innings he took his 16th loss of the season. Jordan Hershiser tossed 2 scoreless innings of relief and Jacob Rhame threw a hitless 9th, but it didn't matter because the offense managed just 4 singles in this game.
Rookie Ogden – The Raptors continued the trend of slow days at the plate in a 9 - 1 loss to the Rockies. Ivan Vela went 2 for 3 with a homer while Jimmy Allen and Brian Wolfe both doubled, but that was it for the offense. On the mound Victor Gonzalez took the loss after allowing 6 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings. Reliever Abdiel Velasquez was even worse, however, as he gave up 7 runs and 6 runs, although only 4 were earned thanks to a trio of Ogden errors.
Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers actually showed some offense in a 6 - 5 win over the Padres. The Dodgers actually collected 3 triples in this game, starting with a RBI three-bagger from Ibandel Isabel. Alex Verdugo had a double and a triple, while Ariel Sandoval tripled in the 9th and scored the game winning run. Carlos Felix lasted 5 innings and allowed 4 runs, while reliever Kam Uter struck out the side in the 6th. Derrick Sylvester picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings and 3 K's.
DSL – Season over
Coming up – Grant Holmes makes his 3rd start of the year for Ogden as he takes the mound for the Raptors, while fellow 2014 draftee John Richy gets the call for the Loons. Zach Lee throws for the Isotopes, Jeremy Kehrt will be on the bump for the Lookouts, and Luis Chirinos toes the rubber for the Quakes.
Minor League Transactions – LoA: Brandon Trinkwon was placed on the DL while Faustino Oguisten was activated.
