Dodgers 8/29/14 minor league report - Jose De Leon fans 12 in win

Minor League Player of the DayPitcher Jose De Leon (LoA) 5.2 IP, one run, two hits, one walk and 12 strikeouts. In his four games at Great Lakes, De Leon has struck out 42 and walked 2 in 22.2 innings pitched.

AAA – The Isotopes trailed 6 - 4 when they came to bat in the bottom of the 8th but then they put up five runs to defeat the 51's (Mets) 9 - 6.  Chris Reed made his final start of the season and he pitched 5.2 innings and gave up five runs, nine hits, two walks and struck out three.  Fabio Martinez pitched one inning for the win and Yimi Garcia picked up the save as he pitched one inning, gave up a hit and struck out two.  Clint Robinson homered twice and drove in four runs.  Carlos Triunfel went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.  Joc Pederson was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk.  

AA – Chattanooga fell back into a tie for a playoff spot with the Smokies (Cubs) as the Lookouts lost 6 - 5.  Nick Struck and Freddie Cabrera gave up six runs in their 6 innings pitched.  Darnell Sweeney was 2 for 2 with a double and two walks.  Corey Seager hit his 16th double as a Lookout (and for 2014, number 50).

HiA – The Quakes shutout the Storm (Padres) 9 - 0 on Friday night. Julio Urias completed his regular season by retiring the last 13 batters he faced.  Urias finished his 5 IP night by allowing just one hit and striking out four.  Urias also picked up the win because the Quakes offensive show started in the top of 5th as singles by Adam Law and Pratt Maynard drove in three runs.  Law was 3 for 5 with three RBI.  Kyle Farmer was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.  Dillion Moyer also had two hits and a RBI.

LoA – The Loons walked offed the Captains (Indians) by a 2 - 1 score. Player of the day, Jose De Leon dominated by striking out 12.  Michael Johnson and Jordan Hershiser added four more strikeouts to make it 16 for the game.  A.J. Vanegas got the win by pitching a scoreless 9th.  Josmar Cordero drove in Paul Hoenecke to tie the game in the seventh inning.  With two out in the bottom of the ninth, Webster Rivas walked.  Malcolm Holland pinch-ran for Rivas and he stole his 42nd base and moved to third on a interference call.  Cordero walked and went to second on defensive indifference.  Alex Santana drove in the winner.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors trailed 9 - 2 as they hit in the bottom of the eighth but then they scored seven to tie and then in the eleventh, Ogden pushed over a run to defeat the Rockies 10 - 9.  It was the Raptor offense that created this victory, the Raptors had 19 hits to go along with the ten runs.  Billy Bereszniewicz, Jimmy Allen and Cody Bellinger were a combined 8 for 16.  Michael Ahmed was 4 for 6 with two doubles.  John Cannon had a home run in his 2 for 6 game.

Rookie Arizona –day off before playoff starts on Saturday

Coming up –  Brandon Martinez makes his first start for the Quakes. Zachary Bird gets the ball for the Loons, Victor Gonzalez throws for the Raptors, and Matt Shelton toes the rubber for the Lookouts.  Arizona Dodgers will also play their quarter-final one-game playoff game today.

Minor League Transactions – HiA: Robbie Garvey placed on the 7-day disabled list. LoA: Pitcher Sven Schuller assigned to AZL Dodgers from Great Lakes Loons.  Rookie: AZL Dodgers placed Pitcher William Soto on the 60-day disabled list.
