Ogden Raptors moves closer to clinching second half title

Minor League Player of the Day1B Justin Chigbogu (Rookie), 2 for 5, home run and two RBI. Chigbogu hit his 20th home run to take a four home run lead in that Pioneer race.

Playoffs Notes:  Southern League (AA) - Chattanooga is tied with Tennessee for the last playoff spot in their division.  They also are playing each other in the final series of regular season.  They have a double header scheduled for Sunday and then the series finale on Monday.  The first team to win two of the remaining three games goes to the playoffs.

California League (HiA) - Rancho Cucamonga  would need a lot to happen to get a shot so they are likely out of the playoffs this season.

Midwest League (A) - Great Lakes only controls so much in their playoff chase but winning both of their last two games would be a start.

Pioneer League (Rookie) - Ogden has a magic number of 3 with 5 games left to play, any combination of Ogden wins and Grand Junction losses that total three will clinch a spot for Ogden.

Saturday's results

AAA –  Off day

AA – Lookouts game against the Smokies (Cubs) was postponed and rescheduled as part of a Sunday doubleheader.

HiA – The Quakes fell behind the Storm (Padres) in the early innings and ended up losing 5 - 2.  Brandon Martinez made his California League debut and it wasn't a good one.  Martinez pitched 5 innings, gave up four runs, eight hits and struck out one.  The Quakes could only manage five hits, Chris Jacobs was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.  Brandon Dixon was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

LoA – The Loons were shutout and lost to the White Caps (Tigers) by a 1 - 0 score. Zachary Bird pitched well as he went 5.1 innings and gave up one run, five hits, and struck out five.  With only five base runners, the Loons did not have a lot of opportunities to score, going 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors had an 18 hit attack and defeated the Rockies 9 - 7.  The heart of the order really got it going on Saturday, as Cody Bellinger, Julian Leon and Justin Chigbogu went 8 for 15 with two doubles, two triples and a home run.  It seems odd that the Raptors only had one walk and five strikeouts on their pitching ledger.  Victor Gonzalez got the win and and Joe Broussard got the save.

Rookie ArizonaFour Dodger errors produced three unearned runs that helped the White Sox defeat the Dodgers 5 -4 and eliminated the Dodgers from the Arizona League playoffs.   Carlos Felix started and gave up three runs (two earned) along with eight hits. Bubby Rossman took the loss which was aided by a poor throw that put the eventual winning run on base.  Alex Verdugo went 0 for 5.

Coming upMatt Magill goes for the Isotopes; Luis Chirinos makes his first start for the Quakes. John Richy gets the ball for the Loons, Brock Stewart throws for the Raptors, and Matt Shelton toes the rubber for the Lookouts in the first game and the Lookouts have not named a starter for the second game.
