Minor League Player of the Day – Daniel Mayora (AA) - 4 for 5, 1 2B, 2 RBI's. Mayora may be one of the older players in the Southern League, but that's not stopping him from contributing to the Lookouts in 2014. While his overall stats are overly impressive, Mayora is hitting .425 over his last 10 games with a 1.152 OPS.
AAA – The Isotopes used a well rounded hitting attack to defeat the 51's (Mets) 6 to 2 on Thursday. Albuquerque pounded out 15 hits in this one, with 3 each from Clint Robinson (who homered) and Brock Pederson (who doubled and drove in 3). Tim Federowicz, Alex Guerrero, Mike Baxter, and Jamie Romak all also had more than one hit in this game. Starter Jeff Bennett evened his record at 6 with a quality start, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs over 6 frames. Colt Hynes threw two solid innings of relief, then Josh Ravin got the final 3 outs without any issues.
AA – The Lookouts beat down the Biscuits (Rays) 8 to 2 on Thursday. Daniel Mayora had the big game at the plate for Chattanooga as he went 4 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI's. Corey Seager also doubled and drove in a run, while Scott Schebler was 2 for 5 with a RBI and 2 runs scored. On the mound starter Nick Struck picked up the after allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits over 6.1 frames. Juan Gonzalez and Blake Smith got through the final 2.2 innings without giving up a hit.
HiA – Julio Urias lost for the just second time this season as the Quakes fell to the 66ers (Angles) 4 to 3. Urias only allowed 3 hits in his 4 innings of work, but he also walked a couple and 3 runs (2 earned) scored against him. One of the hits he gave up was a homer, but he also struck out 5. Fabio Martinez permitted the 4th run of the game out of the bullpen. At the dish Pratt Maynard continued his recent hot streak by going 2 for 4 with his 1st homer of the year, while Aaron Miller connected on his 12th bomb of the season. Tyler Ogle also had a solid game as he reached base 3 times via a single, a double, and a walk.
LoA – The Loons played their fifth one-run game in a row on Thursday, but for the second consecutive night they came out losers as Great Lakes fell to South Bend (Dbacks) 3 to 2. Starter Victor Arano threw well in the defeat as he allowed just 4 hits and 1 run over 5 innings of work. Jordan Hershiser was charged with the loss, however, after he gave up 2 runs in the 6th that his offense wasn't able to get back. Webster Rivas went 2 for 4 with a couple of doubles and drove in a run while Josmar Cordero also had a two-bagger and a RBI. Joey Curletta and Paul Hoenecke both had a couple of hits each
Rookie Ogden – The Raptors matched the Osprey (Dbacks) with 9 hits on Thursday, but they couldn't generate as many runs in a 9 to 4 loss. Devan Ahard had a big game as he collected 3 of the Ogden hits, falling a double shy of the cycle as he singled, tripled, and homered. Colin Hering also had more than one extra base hit as he went 2 for 4 with a double and a long ball. On the mound Abdiel Velasquez got hit hard as he allowed 2 runs in each of the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings. Ryan Taylor permitted 2 more runs in relief, then Billy Flamion also gave up a score despite striking out 5 hitters in 2.1 frames.
Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers had a rough game on Thursday as they fell to the Mariners 5 to 1. It's never a good thing when you have an equal number of hits and errors, but that's what happened to the Dodgers in this contest as they collected just 4 hits and made the same number of miscues in the field. Federico Celli went 2 for 3 with a double and Ariel Sandoval crushed his first homer of the season, but he also made one of the errors in center field. On the mound Jairo Pacheco was solid in the loss as he allowed just 3 hits and 1 earned run over 5 innings while punching out a season high 9 batters. Reliever Takumi Numata fell victim to some of the errors in relief as only 1 of the 3 runs he allowed were earned.
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers got 1-hit on Thursday in a 5 - 1 loss to the Indians. Cristian Santana's double was the lone base knock for the Dodgers, and he later came around to score on an error. Starter Dennys Chica allowed just 1 hit over 3 innings but took the loss after two unearned runs scored against him. A couple of other relievers had trouble out of the bullpen, but then Melvyn Forbes finished up with 2 hitless frames
Coming up – It's a full slate of games on Friday, starting with Greg Harris and the Loons at 4:35 PT. Matt Shelton and the Lookouts take the field at 5:05, Jose De Leon and the Raptors play at 6:00, and the Quakes and Isotopes both play at 7:05 and will send Jharel Cotton and Barry Enright to the mound, respectively.
Minor League Transactions – Chris Reed was promoted to Albuquerque while Steve Smith was sent back to Chattanooga.
