Dodgers 2016 free agent contest

It is now past midnight on the east coast, just 9 p.m. PT, but the quiet period is over, and Major League Baseball free agency is officially here. Anyone is free to sign now with any team.

This isn't like the NBA, with a rush at the very first minute in the courting process. Baseball for the most part takes things relatively nice and slow. Which gives us time to hold a contest.

Guess where these nine Dodgers free agents will sign this offseason:

• Justin Ruggiano
• Chase Utley

Submit your guesses in the comments below this post. I will accept submissions until 9 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 13. Anything submitted in the comments after that will not count. If any of these nine players sign somewhere before next Friday's deadline, they will not count toward the contest.

Format

For each player, I am looking for two things: his new team, and the number of guaranteed years of his contract.

Tiebreaker: $284.73 million

Point system

Guess the team correctly: 5 pts.

Guess the number of guaranteed years correctly: 1-2 years, 2 pts; 3+ years, 1 pt. per year.

Tiebreaker

Guess the total guaranteed money of Greinke's contract. In the event of a tie, the closest in absolute value to Greinke's actual total contract will win.

Caveats/examples

Players must sign before Sunday, Apr. 3, 2016. Any deal struck after that will result in no points.

Years must match exactly. Guessing a one-year deal correctly nets two points. Every other correct guess nets points equal to the number of years.

If a player signs a two-year deal plus an option year, that is a two-year deal, not three.

If a player signs a six-year deal with an opt-out after three years, that is a six-year deal.

Minor league deals don't count. No points will be awarded.

Entries for this contest must be entered in the comments section of this post, and must be entered by 9 p.m. PT on Nov. 13.
