It was 11 years ago today that Adrian Beltre officially left the Dodgers to sign a five-year deal with the Mariners worth $64 million. The 25-year-old third baseman was coming off a monster year, hitting .334/.388/.629 with 48 homers and 121 RBIs.
What could've been for Beltre and the Dodgers will never be known. It is, however, safe to say that the Dodgers missed out on a power corner infielder that hit 25 or more homers in seven of the next nine seasons.
Instead of having a cornerstone piece at the hot corner for several years, the Dodgers have cycled through several players since Beltre departed. The number of players to start at least five games at third in a given season has reached 38 and only two names on that list have started at least 100 games -- and only one of those in multiple years.
Test your knowledge below on the multitude of names. Only the last name is needed for the guess and some names will appear more than once on the list. The name will disappear if you guess correctly and will automatically fill in if there were multiple years. Have fun.
