Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig left Thursday night's game against the Angels in the fifth inning after a collision with second baseman Howie Kendrick on a fly ball.
Puig appeared to be accidentally hit in the face by Kendrick's elbow as both chased a fly ball to shallow right field off the bat of Mike Trout in the bottom of the fifth inning. The ball dropped as Puig got a late jump on the play, then as Puig was accelerating to try to catch the ball he couldn't avoid Kendrick, who appeared to elbow him in the face as they collided.
The ball fell for a triple.
Puig laid on the ground for a few moments before being examined by trainer Stan Conte, as manager Don Mattingly and others watched. After a few minutes, Puig walked off the field under his own power, with Conte.
Chris Heisey replaced Puig in right field.
Puig hit in throat/neck area and taken out as a precaution. He's fine.
