LOS ANGELES -- You can't keep them all, it seems. The Dodgers on Monday traded left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.

The Dodgers acquired Cedeno from the Nationals for cash considerations on Wednesday, eight days after Washington designated the pitcher for assignment. But before he was activated, the Dodgers designated Cedeno for assignment on Friday to make room on the 40-man roster for Sergio Santos.

Cedeno is out of options.

Cedeno, 29, allowed two runs in three innings over five appearances with the Nationals this season, with four strikeouts and two walks. He has a 5.24 ERA in 77 relief appearances over parts of five major league seasons, with 54 strikeouts and 24 walks in 55 innings.

The Dodgers have been able to keep the other pitchers they have designated for assignment this season, including David Huff, Ryan Dennick and Daniel Corcino.

For those wondering, Cedeno counts as an old friend.
