Player of the day

Rancho Cucamonga pitcher Jose De Leon struck out 12 for the second time this week. In seven innings, De Leon gave up one run and five hits. The 22-year old righthander has 50 strikeouts and six walks in 32 innings pitched this season.

More from Kelsie Heneghan of MiLB.com:

While warming up in the bullpen prior to the game, the 22-year-old right-hander seemed tight. He didn't think he had his best stuff.

"I felt since I didn't have my normal velocity, I think I was more concerned and more focused on getting ahead in the count and try to get guys out early instead of striking everybody out," De Leon said. "But from the third inning on, I felt like normal and I was able to strike people out.

"I knew I had to have great command of my fastball and work with my offspeed. My changeup was really good. I think I just battled my way through the lineup."

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City's game at Omaha (Royals) was rained out and will be made up with a doubleheader on Monday.

Double-A Tulsa

Tulsa was unable to mount much offense as they lost 3-2 to Springfield (Cardinals). Tulsa scored their two runs on two solo home runs but were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Dustin Richardson started for the Drillers but was replaced after two innings with a undisclosed ailment per Tulsa Drillers Game Recap. In the sixth inning, with one run in and the bases loaded, Jacob Rhame gave up a double that scored the tying and go-ahead runs.

The two solo home runs were hit by Jarek Cunningham and Brandon Dixon. Dixon extended his hitting streak to seven games with that home run.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

Strong pitching led the Quakes to a 3-1 win over Mavericks (Rangers). Three Quakes pitchers struck out 16 and walked none.

Jose De Leon led that performance with his 12-strikeout start. Kenley Jansen struck out one in ⅔ innings pitched. Dan Tillman recorded his first save and struck out three in the final 1⅓ innings.

Cody Bellinger hit a solo home run in the second inning. Bellinger has now homered in three straight games. Outfielder Devan Ahart was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Delvis Morales doubled and was 1-for-3.
