Player of the day

Joe Wieland had been hit very hard in his last two starts (one with OKC and one with LA), but on Saturday he really turned things around with five shutout innings. While Joe only recorded two strikeouts, he also allowed just two hits.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Cubs and Dodgers matched zeros all night until Austin Barnes finally ended the offensive futility with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. The winning hit was set up by a walk and a throwing error by Iowa on a Scott Schebler grounder that could have been an inning ending double play. Corey Seager, playing 3rd base in this game, went 2-for-4 and now has seven hits over his last three games.

On the mound starter Joe Wieland was very effective as he allowed just two hits over five scoreless frames. The bullpen completed the shutout, including a hitless inning each from Chris Reed and Daniel Coulombe.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers allowed four early runs but managed to claw their way back for a 5-4 victory over the Travelers (Angels). Starter Daniel Corcino got knocked out of the game after permitting all four runs to score in the second inning. The Tulsa bullpen was excellent, however, as Matt West tossed three hitless innings, Mike Thomas blanked Arkansas for two frames, and Jacob Rhame picked up his first Texas League save.

Lars Anderson had a big game offensively as he reached base four times and connected on the game winning three-run homer in the seventh inning. Jeremy Rathjen's double was the only other extra base hit for Tulsa.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes defeated Lake Elsinore (Padres) 8-6 thanks to several big performances as the plate. Craig has the full game coverage here.

Low Class-A Great Lakes

The South Bend Cubs were able to cut down Trevor Oaks and the rest of the Loons on Saturday in a 10-4 victory. After pitching well so far this season, including back to back eight inning outings in his last two starts, Oaks got rocked for nine runs in less than three innings. He permitted a pair of homers and did not record a strikeout. The Great Lakes bullpen did their part to limit any additional damage, but the deficit was just too much to overcome.

Mike Ahmed and Spencer Navin drove in a couple of runs each to pace the Loons offense.
