Jharel Cotton and Cody Bellinger lead Quakes to 4-2 win

Player of the day

Jharel Cotton made his third appearance for the Quakes and pitched a solid seven innings. Cotton gave up two runs, six hits, one walk and struck out nine.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City had the day off.

Double-A Tulsa

Falling behind 5-0 after one inning, the Drillers were able to take the lead twice but in the end, the Naturals (Royals) won 11-10. Jorge De Leon gave up two runs in the seventh inning that gave the game to the Naturals.

Jose De Leon started and he gave up six runs in three innings pitched. The six earned runs were the most since his first start in 2014 and De Leon had not given up more than three runs in a game since August 1, 2014.

Despite giving up nine runs in the first five innings, the Drillers took the lead in the seventh but ten runs were not enough. Every starter had at least one hit, Daniel Mayora and Ali Solis had three hits. Jeremy Rathjen hit his second home run of the season. Hector Olivera was 1-for-5.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes completed their road trip by taking the series finale against the Nuts (Rockies) 4-2 in ten innings. The Quakes head home with a three-game lead with 11 games to play in the first half of the season.

Brandon League made his second rehab appearance and League pitched one inning and had one strikeout. Jharel Cotton followed League and Cotton made his longest appearance of his short season. Ramon Benjamin pitched the final two innings and Benjamin got the win.

Five Quakes had two hits, Cody Bellinger, Kyle Farmer, Tyler Ogle, Paul Hoenecke and Brian Wolfe. Bellinger hit his 18th double and 12th home run of the season.

Low Class-A Great Lakes

The Loons won their seventh straight game as they defeated the Kernels (Twins) 2-1 on Wednesday night. The Loons are still battling to clinch a first half playoff spot, the Loons are a 1½ games behind a playoff spot with 11 games to go.

Loons pitchers only had two strikeouts but they also only gave up just one run. Brandon Martinez started and pitched six innings and Martinez just allowed two hits and struck out one batter. Karch Kowalcyzk pitched 1⅓ and gave up a run on three hits. J.D. Underwood allowed just one hit in his 1⅔ innings.

Johan Mieses hit his fifth home run and Alex Verdugo was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
