Player of the day
Jeremy Rathjen was 3-for-5 on Saturday with a double, a homer, and two runs scored. While Rathjen has been mostly disappointing for the Dodgers since they drafted him in the 11th round of the 2012 draft, the big outfielder finished a triple short of the cycle in his of the season.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City scored four runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Sounds (A's) 6-4 on Saturday. Starter Joe Weiland got through the first five innings of this game unscathed as he did not allow a run, but reliever Matt West got hit hard in relief to make the game close. Chih-hui Tsao picked up his fourth save of the season, although he did permit a run in the 9th.
At the dish both Kyle Jensen and Andy Wilkins went 2-for-4 with a double, and they combined to drive in three runs. Elliot Johnson had the only other extra base hit in this game as he also doubled. Hector Olivera was 0-for-4 in his Oklahoma City Dodger debut.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers outlasted Springfield (Cardinals) on Saturday 8 to 7. Both starters got hit hard in this game, and for Tulsa it was Chris Anderson allowing six hits and five runs over five innings. Ryan Dennick was charged with the blown save as he permitted two runs in relief, but the rest of the Tulsa bullpen was solid from the 8th inning on. Mike Thomas would eventually record the win thanks to a hitless 11th inning.
At the dish center fielder Peter Lavin went 4-for-6 to lead the offense. Lars Anderson, Brandon Dixon, and player of the day Jeremy Rathjen all went deep in this contest but it was Luis Mateo who won the game with a walk-off single in the 11th.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes got crushed 14 to 2 on Saturday and Craig has a recap of the Quakes game here.
Low Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons were rained out on Saturday, and they will try to make up both games on Sunday.
Dominican Summer League Dodgers
The Dominican Dodgers got outlasted by the Red Sox 9-7 on Saturday. Third baseman Jimy Perez, in his third season with the Dodgers, led the offense with a couple of homers,while right fielder Romer Cuadrado had the only other multi-hit by going 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
On the mound starter Raul Ascanio gave up just one unearned run over 3.2 innings, but relievers Angel Bautista and Adalberto Pena permitted eight runs in relief to lose the contest.
Transactions
Triple-A: Nate Samson was assigned to Tulsa.
Double-A: Faustino Oguisten was assigned to the Drillers while Daniel Mayora was placed on the DL.
Class-A: Scott Van Slyke joined the Quakes on a rehab assignment. In addition, Robbie Garvey was placed on the DL while Josmar Cordero was assigned to the Quakes.
