UPDATE: The picnic will go on as scheduled even though ESPN has moved the game to Sunday Night Baseball.
UPDATE: The location has been set at McCambridge Recreation Center in Burbank. (Click here for a map.)
This park is located just off the I-5 freeway, so it should be relatively easily accessible. (Note that the Scott Rd offramps are closed however. If coming from the south use the Burbank Blvd exit, if coming from the north, use either the Buena Vista Ave or Burbank Blvd exits.
We have Diamond #2 reserved from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. and Picnic Area #1 reserved from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. (Yes, those times overlap on purpose.) There is also a basketball court and bocce court very near the picnic area.
Note: the city of Burbank prohibits alcohol consumption in their parks, as most SoCal cities do.
Historically, True Blue LA picnics have been fun events and last year's gathering was no exception.
This time we thought we'd trying doing it in season rather than in November.
Why August 9? A few reasons:
- We want Eric there and Sundays are our best shot at that
- The Dodgers are in Pittsburgh that day for a
10:35 A.M.game. (OOPS, thanks to ESPN, the game has been moved to 5:00 P.M. for Sunday Night Baseball, but the picnic shall go on!) No one (locally) will have tickets to the game, and that is their earliest Sunday start time for the remainder of the season that's far enough in the future. - Better diamond availability (last year we found the diamond closed for repairs)
- Summer just seems like the season to picnic
Our picnic arrangements are usually pretty informal. Typically people bring food with the intent to share, but obviously not everyone should bring enough food to feed everyone!
We're also thinking that maybe the softball game would be first, followed by food and drink, but we are open to discussion on that.
A location has not yet been finalized, and maybe the start time would move slightly, but details to follow, so watch this space for more.
