Player of the day
Grant Holmes faced the 18 batters in his six I nnings as he won his first start in the second half of his season. Holmes did give up a hit and two walks but two caught stealings and one double play confined his work in each inning to the minimum three batters.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Scott Baker pitched eight shutout innings and the Dodgers defeated the Sounds (Athletics) 5-0. Baker went 3-0 in June with a 1.29 ERA and allowed only 16 baserunners in 28 Innings. Josh Ravin finished the game with a two-strikeout ninth inning.
Darnell Sweeney and Darwin Barney each had two hits; Scott Schebler had a triple and was 1-for-2.
In a forgettable game, the Drillers were beaten soundly 12-1 by the Naturals (Royals). Jeremy Kehrt gave up seven runs in three innings. Chris Reed gave up two runs in two innings.
Kyle Farmer was 1-for-2, Yadir Drake had an RBI and two walks.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes took three out of four as the Quake beat the Storm (Padres) 4-0 at Lake Elsinore. John Richy won his seventh game of the season. Richy pitched six innings, gave up three hits, a walk, and struck out six.
19-year-old outfielder Johan Mieses went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a walk. The team scored four runs despite going 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
Low Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons beat the TinCaps (Padres) 2-1 behind solid pitching by Grant Holmes, J.D. Underwood, and Buddy Rossman. After Holmes finished his six innings, Underwood gave up a run in two innings and Rossman got his third save.
Brian Wolfe went 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
The Raptors and Owlz (Angels) each scored three runs in the ninth inning, the Owlz last run gave them the 9-8 win. Matt Jones had three doubles, Willie Calhoun hit his third home run and Nick Dean was 2-for-5 with a home run.
Six Ogden pitchers took the mound and the damage was done by starter Gregor Mora and the last pitcher, Clint Freeman. Mora gave up five runs in three innings. Freeman gave up three runs and recorded one out.
The Mariners beat the Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday night. The Mariners scored two runs in the first and a run in the second off starter Sven Schuller. Schuller pitched four innings, gave up five hits and three walks.
Ariel Sandoval, Shakir Albert, and Carlos Aquino each had two hits.
