Joe Wieland strikes out eight in 9-1 Oklahoma City win

Joe Wieland has had two consecutive strong starts. In the last week, Wieland has pitched 15 innings, allowing just a run, 12 hits and struck out 15 batters in the two starts.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers scored often on Sunday as they defeated the Rainiers (Mariners) 9-1. Joe Wieland pitched a season high eight innings to pick up the win.

Wieland allowed just one run, six hits and struck out eight. Daniel Coulombe finished up by pitching a scoreless ninth.

O'Koyea Dickson was 3-for-4 with a solo home run, Darnell Sweeney, Corey Seager and Shawn Zarraga each had two hits.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers were never in their game against the Rockhounds (Athletics) has they lost 9-0 on Sunday. Eric Stults took the loss though he was not alone with a poor pitching performance.

Stults pitched four innings, gave up four runs, eight hits, one walk while striking out five. Deck McGuire followed and McGuire allowed three runs, three hits, walked one and struck out two. Daniel Tillman finished the poor pitching performances by giving up two runs and two hits in his one inning of work.

There wasn't much going on offensively, the Drillers scattered five hits and struck out six times.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes finished their regular season home games against the Storm (Padres) with a 9-1 win on Sunday at LoanMart Field. The win gave the Quakes a 15-0 record against the Storm at home.

Trevor Oaks started and went 4⅓ innings. Oaks allowed a run, three hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Michael Johnson picked up the win by pitching 1⅔ innings and giving up a hit and struck out two. Brock Stewart and Rob Rogers also had scoreless outings.

Lots of offense for the Quakes, Alex Verdugo carried on his solid play from Great Lakes by going 2-for-5 with two doubles, Jacob Scavuzzo and Kyle Garlick each had two hits and an RBI. Tyler Ogle and Spencer Navin each hit a home run in the six-run first inning, Ogle's was a two-run shot.

Low Class-A

The Loons scored a run in the eighth to tie and then scored the winning run in the tenth to beat the LumberKings (Mariners) 3-2. J.D. Underwood won his third game of the season.

Isaac Anderson started for the Loons and pitched five innings, gave up two runs, four hits, a walk and struck out five. Bubby Rossman pitched two scoreless innings. Underwood pitched three innings and struck out three.

Willie Calhoun, now hitting .393/.439/.492 in 66 plate appearances for the Loons, went 3-for-5 and Nick Sell also went 3-for-five with an RBI and a run scored. The Loons had plenty of opportunities to score in the game but they went 2-for-16 with RISP.

Rookie - Pioneer League

The Mustangs (Reds) broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth by scoring three runs and they went on to defeat the Raptors 6-3. Shea Spitzbarth had not allowed a run in eight appearances for the Arizona Dodgers but in his Pioneer League debut, Spitzbarth gave up three runs in his 1⅔ innings and took the loss.

Adam Bray started for the Raptors and pitched five innings, allowing a run, four hits, a walk and struck out three.

Jimy Perez went 1-for-2 with two walks in his Pioneer League debut but the Raptors only had two other hits, with Gage Green and Scott De Jong each producing one hit.

Rookie - Arizona League

Leading 7-2 going into the fifth inning, the Indians scored six runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh to beat the Dodgers 10-8.

Victor Gonzalez made a rehab start for the Dodgers and Gonzalez pitched two innings and gave up no runs, one hit, one walk and got all of his outs via strikeouts. Miguel Urena had his first poor game in over a month, Urena gave up eight runs (seven earned) in 2⅔ innings.

Ibandel Isabel went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Ariel Sandoval was 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI, Hendrick Clementina and Brendon Davis also had two hits.

Low Class-A: Great Lakes sent pitcher Victor Gonzalez on a rehab assignment to Arizona Dodgers.
