RANCHO CUCAMONGA --- Cody Bellinger had struck out three times in four prior plate appearances when he came up with two on and one out in the tenth inning. A few pitches later, the game was over as Bellinger hit a three-run home run for the 3-0 win.
With the win, the Quakes take a 1-0 lead over the Mavericks (Rangers) in the best-of-five South Division Finals.
With one out in the tenth, Devin Ahart walked and then Tim Locastro got his third hit of the game to put runners on first and second. Bellinger came up and said he was "looking for a curveball." Bellinger saw a high one and didn't miss it, hitting hit high over the right field fence.
Chase De Jong and David Ledbetter started for the Quakes and Mavericks and both were outstanding. De Jong went 6⅔ innings and allowed four hits, two walks and struck out eight. Ledbetter nearly matched that effort with his six innings of work, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out four.
Michael Johnson, Josh Sborz and Kyle Hooper continued to keep Mavericks from scoring. Sborz had a scare in the tenth inning when he was struck on his right arm by a hard shot by Chris Garcia. Sborz was removed for precautionary reasons. Hooper came in and got Isiah Kiner-Falefa to fly out. Hooper's effort would get him the win.
