Chase Utley is playing in his 1,575th major league game and making his 1,491st start on Monday night, and his first at third base, making his hot corner debut and batting second for the Dodgers in the series opener against the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium.

Utley has been taking grounders at the position every so often since the Dodgers acquired him, with the thought he would play multiple positions once Howie Kendrick returned.

That time is now, with Kendrick making his second start in four days since getting activated from the disabled list, easing him back in after missing nearly six weeks with a left hamstring strain.

The opportunity at third base arose Monday with Justin Turner out for a second straight game with left knee soreness after leaving Saturday's game in the seventh inning.

Turner had an MRI on his left knee on Monday, and the Dodgers await the results, hoping it shows no more than inflammation, per Mark Saxon of ESPN LA.

Adrian Gonzalez is back at first base after missing Sunday's game with back stiffness.

Brett Anderson starts against Jhoulys Chacin.
