LA City Council to vote on proposal for Vin Scully Avenue outside Dodger Stadium

LOS ANGELES -- The easiest vote to predict in the history of the Los Angeles City Council will take place on Friday morning, with councilman Gil Cedillo proposing a motion to rename part of Elysian Park Avenue to honor Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully.

The vote will take place at City Hall on Friday in a special agenda meeting scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. PT, with the proposal to rename the portion of Elysian Park Avenue from Sunset to Stadium Way. The new name would be Vin Scully Avenue, to honor the Hall of Famer, who will announce Dodgers games for a 67th season in 2016.

"There’s no better way to recognize such an iconic Dodger as Hall of Famer Vin Scully than naming a street after him," Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten said via press release. "We appreciate Gil Cedillo and city officials bringing this to the forefront and we look forward to the day when everyone can drive on Vin Scully Avenue when they enter Dodger Stadium."

The motion needs 10 of 15 votes from the council to pass for consideration.

The one real vote the measure needed to exist in the first place is believed to have already been secured.

The Dodgers on Friday will have several current and former players and managers present at the city council meeting, including Dave Roberts, Clayton Kershaw, Yasiel Puig, Austin Barnes, Jharel Cotton, Carlos Frias, Yimi Garcia, Chris Hatcher, Pedro Baez, Yasmani Grandal, Micah Johnson, Zach Lee, Adam Liberatore, Frankie Montas, Josh Ravin, Scott Van Slyke, Trayce Thompson, and Ross Stripling, Tommy Lasorda, Orel Hershiser, Ron Cey, Steve Garvey, Eric Karros, Maury Wills and SportsNet LA broadcaster Alanna Rizzo.
