LOS ANGELES -- It is now official. On Friday, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously, 12 votes to zero, to rename Elysian Park Avenue. Now, the road from Sunset Blvd to Stadium Way to get to Dodger Stadium will be named Vin Scully Avenue.

The motion was introduced by councilman Gil Cedillo, but the line of the day may have come from fellow councilman Paul Koretz, who didn't think a street was enough to honor Scully.

"I'd be okay if we named the whole damn city after him," Koretz said at City Hall.

Cedillo said the process to change the street name will take 30 days, which means Vin Scully Avenue will be in place well before the regular season starts, per J.P. Hoornstra of the LA Daily News.

"I am overwhelmed. I was raised in the streets of New York and to have a street named after me in Los Angeles is almost too much to comprehend," Scully said in a statement. "I am eternally grateful to the Los Angeles City Council and especially Councilman Gil Cedillo.

"A path to Dodger Stadium is a path way to my heart. For 55 years it has been an honor to walk that road to one of the greatest entertainment centers in the world, a place that has brought so much joy to all of us. I thank God for this great honor."
