LOS ANGELES -- Second baseman Howie Kendrick is returning to Los Angeles, with the free agent agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with the Dodgers pending a physical, per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Kendrick's contract is worth a total of $20 million, per Jon Heyman.
There was interest in Kendrick this offseason at times from the Nationals, Diamondbacks and Angels, but as his market thinned out the Dodgers reentered the fray, as Rosenthal reported earlier Thursday.
Kendrick hit .295/.336/.409 with nine home runs and 22 doubles in 117 games for the Dodgers. It was his fewest games played in a season since 2009, thanks in part to missing 35 games with a left hamstring strain in August and September.
He has been a fairly consistent hitter throughout his career, with his 107 OPS+ and 109 wRC+ in 2015 right in line with his career marks of 108 in both categories. The 32-year-old has hit .293/.333/.423 in his 10-year career, the first nine of which were with the Angels.
Kendrick declined the Dodgers' qualifying offer of one year, $15.8 million in November, but because he is returning the Dodgers will not receive a draft pick for him signing elsewhere.
