LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers made official their National League Championship Series roster on Saturday morning, with some changes to the 25-man group. Utility man Kiké Hernandez and pitcher Alex Wood were the additions for this round against the Cubs.
The Dodgers carried 11 pitchers against the Nationals in the NLDS. Against Chicago, they will have 12 pitchers, to go with 13 position players, just as manager Dave Roberts said in his press conference on Friday.
Charlie Culberson and Austin Barnes were the casualties, left off the roster after participating in the NLDS.
The Cubs are also carrying 13 position players and 12 pitchers.
Kenta Maeda starts Game 1 for the Dodgers on Saturday, and will likely be followed in Game 2 by Clayton Kershaw though nothing has been announced by the team beyond Maeda’s scheduled start.
Hernandez had a rough 2016 season, hitting .190/.283/.324 in 109 games and 244 plate appearances, and was left off the Dodgers’ roster for the NLDS. The right-handed Hernandez did hit .189/.308/.361 against left-handed pitchers in 2016, and against southpaws in his career has hit .270/.362/.478.
He is 3-for-12 (.250) with a triple and home run in his career against left-hander Jon Lester, the Game 1 starter for the Cubs. That home run was hit this season on June 1 at Wrigley Field, and it was the only run the Dodgers tallied against Lester in 15 innings in 2016.
Wood fought back from elbow surgery to post four scoreless innings in relief down the stretch, and figures to be used in a relief role in the series.
