Dodgers offseason roster moves 2016-2017

Every transaction from the end of the 2016 season through the start of 2017 spring training

Here is an overview of every transaction by the Dodgers that affects the 40-man roster from the end of the 2016 season through the beginning of spring training in 2017. This will be updated throughout the offseason.

Nov. 3: Pitchers Kenley Jansen, Rich Hill, Brett Anderson, J.P. Howell, Joe Blanton and Jesse Chavez, third baseman Justin Turner, second baseman Chase Utley and outfielder Josh Reddick all became free agents.

Nov. 5: Pitcher Scott Kazmir did not opt out of his contract, choosing to stay with the Dodgers for the final two seasons on his deal.

Nov. 7: Catcher Carlos Ruiz was traded to the Mariners for left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuno.

Nov. 7: Dodgers extended qualifying offers to third baseman Justin Turner and closer Kenley Jansen.

Nov. 9: Relief pitcher Chin-hui Tsao was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Six days later, Tsao refused the assignment and elected free agency.

Nov. 11: Utility man Howie Kendrick was traded to the Phillies for first baseman / outfielder Darin Ruf and minor league utility man Darnell Sweeney.

Nov. 14: Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner both declined their qualifying offers

Nov. 18: Catcher Kyle Farmer and pitchers Chase De Jong and Jacob Rhame were added to the 40-man roster.

Dec. 1: Pitcher Chris Hatcher, outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke and infielder Charlie Culberson agreed to one-year contracts for 2017. For Hatcher and Van Slyke, they avoided arbitration.

Dec. 2: Team did not tender a contract to pitcher Louis Coleman, making him a free agent.

Dec. 5: Free agent starting pitcher Rich Hill signed a 3-year, $48 million contract to return.

Dec. 9: Infielder Charlie Culberson was sent outright to Triple-A.

Dec. 23: Third baseman Justin Turner signed a 4-year, $64 million free agent contract

Jan. 10: Pitcher Vidal Nuno agreed on a one-year, $1.125 million contract for 2017, avoiding salary arbitration.

Jan. 10: Closer Kenley Jansen signed a 5-year, $80 million contract. Infielder Micah Johnson was designated for assignment.

Jan. 13: Catcher Yasmani Grandal signed a 1-year, $5.5 million deal, avoiding salary arbitration.

Jan. 13: Pitcher Alex Wood signed a $2.8 million deal for 2017, avoiding salary arbitration.

Jan. 13: Lefty reliever Luis Avilan signed a 1-year, $1.5 million deal, avoiding salary arbitration.

Jan. 13: Relief pitcher Josh Fields signed a 1-year, $1.05 million deal for 2017, avoiding arbitration.

Jan. 13: Infielder Micah Johnson was traded to the Braves for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Jan. 23: Second baseman Logan Forsythe was acquired from the Rays for pitcher Jose De Leon.

Jan. 25: Acquired outfielder Brett Eibner from the A’s for minor league infielder Jordan Tarsovich. Pitcher Carlos Frias was designated for assignment.

Jan. 30: Pitcher Carlos Frias was traded to the Indians for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Feb. 15: Relief pitcher Sergio Romo signed a 1-year, $3 million contract. Pitcher Yimi Garcia was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Feb. 18: Second baseman Chase Utley signed a 1-year, $2 million contract.

Feb. 18: Darin Ruf was sold to the Samsung Lions in Korea, with whom he signed a 1-year contract.

Feb. 19: Pitcher Vidal Nuño was traded to the Orioles for minor league pitcher Ryan Moseley.

Feb. 20: Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez signed a 1-year, $2.6 million contract.

Mar. 1: Traded pitcher Chase De Jong to the Mariners for shortstop Drew Jackson and pitcher Aneurys Zabala.
