All eyes on B game for Dodgers

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

PHOENIX -- The Dodgers host the Brewers on Monday afternoon at Camelback Ranch, but most eyes are on the back fields on the White Sox side with this morning's B game.

Scott Kazmir started for the Dodgers and will pitch 4-5 innings to catcher Yasmani Grandal, both of whom last appeared in a Cactus League game on Wednesday. Kazmir volunteered to pitch in the B game so he could work on things after getting roughed up in his first two starts this spring.

Grandal is dealing with left forearm soreness and could return to Cactus League action by Wednesday.

But that's not all. The B game also features top prospects Alex Verdugo and Cody Bellinger, plus high-priced Cuban imports Yusniel Diaz and Omar Estevez in the game as well. All they had to do was face White Sox ace Chris Sale on the mound.

Given the bonuses paid to Diaz ($15.5 million) and Estevez ($6 million) plus the 100-percent overage tax for both, and the 2016 salaries of Kazmir ($16 million) and Grandal ($2.8 million), the Dodgers' financial outlay for their B game stood at over $62 million, at least $25 million more than the lineup the Dodgers are using against the Brewers on Monday.

Our Ryan Walton has been posting some video clips of the B game on our Facebook page throughout the morning.

Alex Guerrero was originally listed to play in both Monday games, including third base in the B game. But instead he will just DH in the afternoon. Guerrero singled as a pinch hitter on Sunday, his first game action since March 4 after dealing with left knee soreness.

As reported on Sunday, Justin Turner is in the lineup at third base for the Dodgers on Monday, his fist Cactus League action. He's batting third against Milwaukee. The Dodgers have been cautious with Turner after offseason microfracture surgery

"I have been the one trying to slow the process down as far as when he gets on the field," Roberts said. "But with the training staff and Justin feel like he's ready to get on the field and play defense today, I'm encouraged by it."

Turner is expected to get two or three plate appearances in Monday's game, and play four or five innings at the hot corner.

Adrian Gonzalez bats cleanup for the Dodgers on Monday. He will remain with the team for one more day, then on Wednesday will fly to Mexico to play in the WBC qualifier for Mexico. The qualifier runs through Sunday, and Gonzalez is expected back with the Dodgers next Monday.
