Oklahoma City gave up a pair of twos and lost by one, Tulsa is doubled up in home opener loss, Rancho Cucamonga takes the first game of their road trip and Great Lakes gave up three late runs to lose by one.
Player of the day
2014 1st round pick Grant Holmes struck out seven in six innings to get his first win for the Quakes. Holmes, 20 years old, so far in two starts, has struck out 12 in 11 innings while walking four and and giving up seven hits .
Triple-A Oklahoma CIty
The Redbirds (Cardinals) scored two runs in the 8th and then two more in the 9th to beat the Dodgers 4-3. The win split the series with each team winning two games.
Sam LeCure started for the Dodgers and pitched five innings and struck out three. Ian Thomas pitched two scoreless innings but he was taken out with runners on second and third and one run in. Matt West would give up a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
An Alex Hassan single drove home a go-ahead run in the 9th.
Chin-hui Tsao got the first two outs but could not record the final out despite getting two strikes on each of the next four batters. A two-strike hit with the bases loaded drove home the tying and winning runs for the Redbirds.
Double-A Tulsa
The Hooks (Astros) defeated the Drillers 10-5 on Thursday night to spoil opening night. Chris Anderson took the loss after giving up six runs in three plus innings. Anderson walked six and struck out four.
Despite 11 hits, the Drillers did not take advantage of opportunities to score, going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Willie Calhoun and Kyle Farmer each had two hits, Alex Verdugo chipped in with a hit.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes won their fourth straight, taking the first game of their road series against the Storm 4-1. Starting pitcher Grant Holmes recorded seven ground ball outs including two double plays.
Yusniel Diaz tripled in one run and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Johan Mieses also tripled in a run.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons saw the Captains (Indians) score three in the 7th to take the lead and the Captains held on to a 3-2 win. Michael Boyle started for the Loons and pitched five shutout innings.
Alexander Hermeling struck out two but he also gave up the three-run home run that was the difference in the game.
Logan Landon had two hits and Garrett Kennedy was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Transactions
Triple-A: Los Angeles recalled left-handed pitcher Adam Liberatore; right-handed pitcher Red Patterson was assigned to Oklahoma City from Tulsa.
