RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- The Quakes were led by both a strong start by Andrew Sopko and solid offense highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Joey Curletta and Michael Ahmed to win 10-3 over the Rawhide (Diamondbacks).
Andrew Sopko, a 2015 7th round pick out of Gonzaga, pitched a career high six innings on Saturday night at LoanMart Field. Sopko allowed no runs, two hits, two walks and struck out five. He was also helped by double plays in the first and second inning.
Luis De Paula didn't allow any runs in the seventh and Bubby Rossman threw a scoreless eighth. In the ninth, the Rawhide scored two runs and loaded the bases with no outs against Rossman. Then he got the third Quakes double play of the night followed by a fly out to end the game.
The game saw the Rawhide commit four errors and the Quakes had two errors.
Besides the home runs, Andrew Toles had a double and three RBI to pace the attack.
The Quakes also stole four bases, including a double steal (second and third base) which led to their first run of the game.
