The Class-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes announced their 2016 roster on Monday, with pitcher Grant Holmes and outfielder Yusniel Diaz highlighting the Dodgers' California League affiliate.
The Quakes will open defense of their California League Title on Thursday night, as they host the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field.
Holmes, 20, was 6-4 with a 3.14 ERA in 24 starts for Low-A Great Lakes in 2015. The 2014 first-round pick struck out 117 in 103 1/3 innings and allowed only 86 hits. Joining Holmes in the rotation will be right-handers Trevor Oaks, Josh Sborz and Brock Stewart.
Other arms to make their return to Rancho include right-handers Joe Broussard, Kyle Hooper, Karch Kowalczyk, Chris Powell and A.J. Vanegas. Lefty Luis De Paula, another returner from last year's club, is the only lefty in the pen to start the year.
Position players returning to the Quakes that were a part of last year's Championship-winning team include catcher Paul Hoenecke, infielder Tim Locastro and outfielders Joey Curletta, Kyle Garlick and Johan Mieses.
Of the 25 players on the current roster, 14 of them earned a championship ring by playing in Rancho Cucamonga in 2015.
The Quakes will carry a total of three prospects that Baseball America considers to be ranked in the Dodgers Top-30, with Holmes (6), Johan Mieses (12) and Sborz at (17).
Diaz, 19, will be one of the most intriguing players on the Quakes roster after signing a deal worth a reported $15.5 million in the offseason after coming over from Cuba. The right-handed slugger will be making his professional debut after some playing time with the Dodgers this spring.
The Quakes will be managed by Drew Saylor in his first year in the organization. Also joining the Quakes coaching staff is hitting coach Jay Gibbons, pitching coach Kip Wells and fourth coach Rafael Ozuna.
