The Dodgers middle infield duo of Corey Seager and Chase Utley get their first day off of the season on Saturday, conveniently against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and the Giants.
Against Bumgarner, the Dodgers went heavily right-handed, with Kiké Hernandez starting at second base and Charlie Culberson at shortstop in place of Utley and Seager. In addition, Trayce Thompson starts in center for the left-handed Joc Pederson and Scott Van Slyke starts his third straight game in left field.
A.J. Ellis is behind the plate for a second straight game, as expected with Clayton Kershaw on the mound. Saturday is Ellis' 35th birthday.
The Giants inserted right-handed bats into their lineup as well, with Ehire Adrianza in for Brandon Crawford at shortstop, and Kelby Tomlinson in for Joe Panik at second base.
Kershaw takes an active scoreless streak of 20⅔ regular season innings into his Saturday start, dating back to Sept. 24, 2015. Kershaw is 9-3 with a 1.16 ERA in 15 career games, including 14 start, at AT&T Park, with 106 strikeouts and 22 walks in 109 innings.
