Rancho Cucamonga scored five runs over the final two frames to capture their fifth straight win in Yaisel Sierra's debut while the Quakes and Loons were washed out
Player of the day
While Kyle Garlick didn't play a role in actual walk-off, it was his three-run homer in the eighth inning that put the Quakes in position to win their game. It was Garlick's sixth homer of the young season to go along with an OPS of .960.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers game in Omaha was postponed due to inclement weather. A doubleheader will take place on Sunday.
The Drillers outhit the Naturals (Royals) 13 -10 on Saturday, but an error by Cody Bellinger in to the top of the 9th led to three unearned runs and resulted in a 6 - 4 loss. Bellinger, who was making his 2016 debut, did go 2-for-4 at the dish, while Willie Calhoun, Lars Anderson, and Alex Verdugo also had a couple of hits each. Brandon Trinkwon was even better at the plate as he reached base four times thanks to three singles and a walk.
On the mound starter Chase De Jong technically put together a quality start as he allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, however the bad news is that all three of the runs came on solo homers. Caleb Dirks also allowed a long ball in relief after the Bellinger error prolonged the final frame, and was tagged with the loss.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes put together a walk-off victory in Yasiel Sierra's professional debut after scoring five runs in the final two frames for a 7-6 win over the Mavericks (Rangers). Sierra lasted just four innings in his first pro appearance and threw 81 pitches, and while he allowed three runs, he also struck out seven. Kyle Hooper and Luis De Paula gave up runs in relief, but Bubby Rossman held the opposition scoreless during his tea's comeback and was rewarded with the victory.
The Rancho offense scored a couple of first inning runs, but was then quiet until Garlick's three-run blast in the eighth. Johan Mieses got things started in the bottom of the ninth with a single, then a walk to Yusniel Diaz put a runner in scoring position. Julian Leon followed with a single to tie the game, then one out later it was Erick Mejia who singled home the game winner after an 11 pitch at bat.
Class-A Great Lakes
A significant amount of rain caused the postponement of the Loons game with the Snappers (A's). The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, with each game lasting just seven innings.
