One night after being removed from the game for failing to run out a potential double off the right field wall, Yasiel Puig is out of the Dodgers' lineup for their series finale against the Reds on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
Puig hit a drive off the right field wall in the sixth inning on Tuesday night, and thinking it was a home run stood and watched the ball at home plate. Instead of a double, Puig ended up with a single, and later scored from second base on an infield ground ball off first baseman Joey Votto.
Manager Dave Roberts removed Puig from the game at the start of the next inning.
Puig on the season is hitting 247/.289/.382, including .244/.262/.366 in May.
Trayce Thompson gets the start in right field, his 10th consecutive start. Howie Kendrick is the new man in the outfield, starting in left field for the eighth time this season.
Kendrick in 2016 in addition to left field has started 11 times at second base, seven games at third base and four times at first base. In his last 19 games, Kendrick is hitting .319/.368/.435 with 11 runs scored and eight RBI.
