Yadier Alvarez strikes out 7 in debut, Arizona Dodgers take opener 8-7

Right-handed pitcher Yadier Alvarez and 2016 first-tound pick Gavin Lux made their professional debuts on Monday.  You can read more about Alvarez's debut below, Lux led off and was 0-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

Player of the day

Yadier Alvarez made his first start for the Arizona Rookie league Dodgers and he struck out seven and gave up one hit in 3⅔ innings pitched.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers dropped their series finale 4-1 to the Zephyrs. Jharel Cotton pitched six innings, gave up four runs, five hits, walked three and struck out eight.

The Dodgers only run was scored by Charlie Culberson who singled and then was driven in on a double from Rob Segedin.

Double-A Tulsa

Despite a 16-hit attack, the Drillers were edged by the Cardinals 5-4 in 11 innings.  Mason Katz scored on a wild pitch after he stole second and third.

Chase De Jong pitched 5⅔ innings and gave up four runs (three earned), six hits, three walks and struck out six.

Cody Bellinger went 4-for-6 with a home run and a double, Paul Hoenecke was 3-for-6, Alex Verdugo and Lars Anderson each had two hits.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes are off for their All-Star game break.

The Loons are off for their All-Star game break.

Rookie - Ogden

The Rockies scored four runs in the sixth which led to a 5-2 win over the Raptors.  2016 draft picks, DJ Peters, Errol Robinson, Darien Tubbs and Brock Carpenter made their professional debut.

Jairo Pacheco started and went 4⅔ innings, he allowed no runs, five hits, two walks and struck out four.

Darien Tubbs scored both Raptor runs, he was 1-for-3 with a triple.  Michael Medina and Gersel Pitre each had two hits.

Rookie - Arizona

The Dodgers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the White Sox 8-7.  Kelbert Ruiz singled to drive in Shakir Albert and Romer Cuadrado.

Along with Yadier Alvarez, 2016 draft pick Luke Raley and left-handed pitcher Francis Cespedes made their professional debuts on Monday.

Cespedes who struck out six for all the outs in his two inning stint, he also gave up three runs (two earned), three hits and walked one.  Cespedes was signed in 2013 by the Texas Rangers and there has yet to be anything reported on how he joined the Dodger organization.

Dominican Summer League - Dodgers 1 and 2

The Dodgers1 lost 6-4 to the Twins, Mike Loaisiga was 1-for-3 with a triple.

The Athletics defeated Dodgers2 by a 2-1 score.  The Dodgers were held to one hit.  Yeison Cespedes pitched 3⅓ scoreless innings, gave up four hits, a walk and struck out two.

Triple-A: Catcher Vinny DiFazio assigned to Oklahoma City from Tulsa; Oklahoma City activated right-handed pitcher Gus Schlosser from the 7-day disabled list; Oklahoma City placed right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to June 17, 2016.  Double-A: Catcher Shawn Zarraga assigned to Tulsa from Oklahoma City.  Rookie: Outfielder Darein Tubbs, shortstop Errol Robinison, right-handed pitcher Carlos Felix, right-handed pitcher Hector Rodriguez, outfielder Saige Jenco; outfielder DJ Peters; third baseman Brock Carpenter assigned to Ogden; second baseman Carlos Aquino assigned to Arizona.
