The Dominican Summer League begins play on Saturday, starting a 72-game season that runs through Aug. 27. The Dodgers are actually fielding two teams this year, which isn't surprising given their increased expenditures in young international talent in the last few years.
They aren't the only team to field two teams; eight other teams have two squads in the DSL.
Though the teams are named for Tommy Lasorda and longtime scout Ralph Avila, they are known in the standings and on the schedule as DSL Dodgers 1 and DSL Dodgers 2, respectively. They play home games at the Dodgers facility at Campo Las Palmas.
Some of the names are recognizable from the recent international hauls by the Dodgers. Outfielder Starling Herediia (signed to a $2.6 million bonus during this signing period) and infielder Ronny Brito ($2 million) are on DSL Dodgers 2, while infielders Oneil Cruz ($950,000) and Lucas Tirado ($1 million in 2013), plus outfielder Carlos Rincon ($350,000) are among the players on DSL Dodgers 1.
Here are the rosters for both Dodgers DSL teams
