A split evening, Oklahoma City and Great Lakes each took a tough loss while Tulsa and Rancho Cucamonga each won tight games.
Player of the day
Loons Outfielder Ariel Sandoval was 2-for-4 with a triple and ninth home run of the season. Sandoval also now has 33 RBI. Sandoval is tied for the league lead in home runs and is tied for fifth in RBI.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Cubs completed their sweep of their series with Dodgers with a 7-5 win on Friday. The Cubs scored three runs in the eighth to take back the lead and added one more in the ninth to give them a two-run win.
Jharel Cotton started for the Dodgers and pitched well until he allowed a three-run home run in the sixth. Cotton would give up the three runs and two hits while walking two and striking out five. Lisalverto Bonilla would take the loss after giving up three runs in ⅓ innings pitched.
Rob Segedin and Zach Walters each had two hits.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers won 3-1 in a nicely pitched game against the Rockhounds (Athletics). Trevor Oaks and three relief pitchers gave up just a run and Oaks won his sixth game of the season.
Oaks allowed a run, six hits and a walk in six innings. Oaks also struck out eight. Rob Rogers and Michael Johnson covered the next two innings and then Scott Griggs made his fifth scoreless appearance to record the save.
Jacob Scavuzzo and Cody Bellinger each had two hits, including a double and an RBI.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes moved back to first place after that 4-3 win over the Storm (Padres). The Quakes scored three runs in the second to take a one-run lead and then they held on for the one-run win.
Felipe Gonzalez won his start, he gave two runs (one earned) in five innings. Chris Anderson pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Karch Kowalczyk allowed a run but he got his fifth save.
Pin-Chieh Chin drove in two with a single in the Quakes three run inning. The Quakes were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Captains (Indians) scored a run in the tenth to beat the Loons 4-3 in extra-innings. The Captains tied the game with a run in the eighth inning.
Imani Abdullah started and pitched five scoreless innings. Alexander Hermeling gave up the tying run while striking out four in two innings.
At the plate, along with Ariel Sandoval who hit his ninth home run of the season, Edwin Rios was 3-for-5 with a double and triple.
Transactions
Class-A: Great Lakes placed right-handed pitcher Chris Powell on the 7-day disabled list; right-handed pitcher Angel German assigned to Great Lakes from Arizona Dodgers.
