RANCHO CUCAMONGA --- Edwin Rios and Grant Holmes were the stars of Friday night's 6-1 over the 66ers at LoanMart Field. Rios hit two solo home runs and Grant Holmes pitched an impressive five innings.
Holmes allowed a run, two hits, walked two and struck out three but he was in command throughout his start. Holmes was still throwing 95-96 mph fastballs down in the zone in the fifth.
Yaisel Sierra pitched two innings in a relief. After getting his first inning of work in rather easily, Sierra found himself with the bases loaded and one out in his second inning. However he got a strikeout and then a tapper to third got him out of the inning unscathed.
Sierra would get the win and David Reid-Foley would pitch the final two innings to finish up the game.
The Quakes trailed by a run when Edwin Rios hit a laser over the centerfield wall to tie the game. Rios came up in the sixth with the game still tied at one when he hit his second home run to left-center.
Edwin Rios has been on a home run tear, this is his fourth game since June 30th with two home runs. He has 12 home runs in 32 games with the Quakes. Rios would finish with 3-for-4 night with his two home runs and an RBI single.
The Quakes would put the game away in the seventh. Joey Curletta homered to make it 3-1 and then the Quakes would add three more runs to complete the scoring for the night.
