A grand slam by Omar Estevez sparks big Loons comeback

Great Lakes had walk-off 11-10 win in the tenth inning; Tulsa, Rancho Cucamonga and DSL Dodgers Two dropped one-run decisions; the other two Dodger Rookie teams, while AZL Dodgers and DSL Dodgers One won their games.

Player of the day

Omar Estevez hit a grand slam which was part of a six run rally that tied the game in the ninth.  Estevez went 3-for-5 with that home run and a double.  He also had five RBI.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers were off on Thursday.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers got a fine start from Scott Barlow but could not produce any offense in a 2-1 loss to the Rockhounds (Athletics).  Wade Kirkland hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and that proved to be the winning run.

Scott Barlow started and pitched six innings and gave up one run, four hits, one walk and struck out seven.  Daniel Corcino gave up the solo home run in his one inning of work.  Joshua Sborz pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Kyle Garlick hit a solo home run that provided all the offense for the Drillers.  Alex Verdugo had two hits.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

Johan Mieses 24th home run was the highlight in the Quakes 2-1 loss to the Storm (Padres).  Tommy Bergjans lost his thirteenth game, he gave up two runs in six innings of work.

Los Angeles Dodger reliever Casey Fien pitched one inning and gave up no runs, two hits and struck out two as he continued his rehab.

Mieses was 2-for-3, he hit his sixth home run in August, in 41 plate appearances this month, Mieses is hitting .395/.452/.947.

Class-A Great Lakes

The Loons were losing to the Captains (Indians) by six runs with two outs and nobody on base.  Then there were four straight walks to make it a five-run game.

Omar Estevez came up with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to make it 10-9.  Luke Raley followed with his first home run for the Loons to tie the game.

In the tenth inning, again with two outs and nobody on, Garrett Hope doubled and Darien Tubbs singled him home with the winning run.

A few hours before that walk-off hit, Yadier Alvarez started and pitched 3⅔ innings.  He gave up four runs (three earned), seven hits, and struck out three.

Pioneer - Ogden

The Raptors were off on Thursday.

Arizona League - AZL Dodgers

AZL Dodgers beat the AZL Indians 5-4 in ten innings.  Carlos Rincon went 2-for-5, Gavin Lux was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Dominican Summer League - Dodgers One & Dodgers Two

Dodgers One shutout the Diamondbacks Two 4-0 while the Dodgers Two lost 4-3 to the Astros Blue.

Double-A:  Tulsa activated right-handed pitcher Scott Griggs from the 7-day disabled list.

Class-A: Los Angeles sent right-handed pitcher Casey Fien on a rehab assignment to Rancho Cucamonga; Rancho Cucamonga placed right-handed pitcher Felipe Gonzalez on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to August 10, 2016; right-handed pitcher Gavin Pittore assigned to Rancho Cucamonga from Great Lakes; right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer assigned to Great Lakes Loons from Ogden.
