Going into Monday’s game, the Great Lakes Loon had two chances to win one game to advance to the Midwest League Championship Series. Now they have one as their 5-3 loss means there will be win-or-go-home game tonight for the Loons.
Player of the day
Right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer was drafted by the Dodgers in the 14th round of the 2016 draft. Kremer split time at Ogden and Great Lakes.
While at Great Lakes, Kremer has pitched 15⅓ innings and has given up a run, four hits walked four while striking out 22. On Monday, Kremer pitched 3⅔ scoreless innings and gave up four hits and struck out two.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers had a travel day on Monday as they prepare to take on the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres) in the Pacific Coast League Championship Series. The five-game series begins with two games in El Paso on Tuesday and Wednesday. After a travel day. the series picks up on Friday with the next three games in Oklahoma City, the fourth and fifth game will be played if necessary.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons lost 5-3 to the Whitecaps (TIgers) which now means they will play a decisive Game 3 tonight at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan. The Whitecaps did their damage early, knocking out Victor Gonzalez in the second inning.
Gonzalez pitched 1 ⅓ innings and faced 12 batters. He gave up five runs, eight hits and a walk.
The Loons, who had scored a run in the top of the first to give them a brief 1-0 lead, mounted their only real comeback in the third inning. After scoring two runs, the Loons had runners at first and third, but Logan Landon grounded into a double play to end the threat.
The Loons got solid relief from Dean Kremer and Tony Gonsolin but it was too late to help on Monday.

Triple-A: Los Angeles sent right-handed pitcher Casey Fien outright to Oklahoma City.
Class-A: Outfielder DJ Peters assigned from Ogden to Great Lakes; outfielder Luke Raley placed on the 7-day disabled list.
