Pioneer - Ogden
The Raptors took an 11-1 lead and then saw the Rockies have the winning run on base in the eighth inning before hanging on for a tough 12-10 win at Grand Junction on Tuesday night. The win put the Raptors in first place by a half game. Which means that now, the Raptors need just one more win over the Rockies to win the 2nd half division title.
Zac Grotz started for the Raptors and had his best start of the season, he went six innings, gave up just one unearned run and three hits. Despite all the excitement to come later, Grotz picked up his first win of the season for that effort.
The Raptors continued to hit well against the Rockies in this series, Cody Thomas and Gavin Lux each had three hits, Keibert Ruiz, Mitchell Hansen and Thomas each homered.
Trailing 11-1, the Rockies scored five runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded in the eighth, Chris Mathewson got Joel Diaz to pop up to end that inning.
Mathewson would go on to collect the save and he did in dramatic style, striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.
