The Dodgers over the first five months of the season built themselves quite a cushion, then spent most of September using nearly all of it. In a season full of extremes, the final month featured an 11-game losing streak, the longest for the team in 73 years.

Then they won eight of their last 10 games, with the final two wins ensuring the Dodgers wouldn’t have the worst September of any MLB playoff team ever. At 13-17 (.433), they finished tied for the 12th-worst final month for a playoff team.

Batter of September

Justin Turner hit .296/.396/.521 for the month with four home runs, seven doubles and 13 RBI. He also walked nine times and was hit five times, setting an LA Dodgers seasonal record along the way with 19 hit by pitches in 2017.

Pitcher of September

Rich Hill allowed six runs in his five starts, posting a 1.86 ERA with 40 strikeouts and eight walks in 29 innings. He started and won the division clincher, striking out nine Giants in his six innings on Sept. 22. Hill finished his month and regular season with 12 consecutive scoreless innings.
