Pedro Baez, Kyle Farmer, Ross Stripling make Dodgers NLDS roster

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers on Friday announced their active roster for the National League Division Series, and will carry 13 position players and 12 pitchers against the Diamondbacks.

Among those who were on the roster bubble, relief pitchers Pedro Baez and Ross Stripling made the roster, as did catcher Kyle Farmer. Speed merchant Tim Locastro, outfielder Joc Pederson and rookie pitcher Walker Buehler did not.

Manager Dave Roberts said before Thursday’s workout at Dodger Stadium the club had chosen 24 of the 25 players on the active roster, with the final choice coming down to a position player versus a relief pitcher.

Baez, the main target of fan angst on Twitter, struggled mightily through most of September. He allowed 12 runs, including three home runs, in 4⅓ innings with more walks (seven) than strikeouts (five) in his first seven appearances of the month, losing four games.

In his final 4⅓ innings, he allowed no runs on four hits, with seven strikeouts and four walks.

"I'm definitely confident he's worked out his issues,” Roberts said this week. “It was a tough stretch for Pedro, but in he’s had four scoreless outings in a row, and he’s throwing the ball well.”

On Wednesday, Roberts offered insight to the roster selection process.

“There are debates. When you’re talking about 20 guys in a room, with the front office and coaches talking about their thoughts, their opinions on how to navigate a game and put together a roster,” Roberts said. “There’s definitely a discussion. It’s healthy and good.”
