Rich Hill gets the start for the Dodgers on Friday night against the Angels in Anaheim, but unlike his Freeway Series rotation mates won’t fully be in tuneup mode in his final spring outing.
Hill pitched five innings in a minor league game on March 19, but last Saturday fell short of stretching out to six innings, pitching 3⅔ innings against the Athletics. So he’ll likely pitch four or five innings tonight instead of roughly three innings like the other Dodgers starters.
The A’s are one of Hill’s former major league teams, one of seven. His 76 innings for Oakland are his second most for any team, behind only the Cubs (337⅔). The Dodgers figure to take over that two spot within the first few months of his season.
Another one of Hill’s former teams is the Angels, for whom he pitched two games in relief in 2014.
Both games for the Angels were on the same day, pitching both ends of a doubleheader on July 1 against the White Sox. In the first game he allowed a single and two walks to load the bases with nobody out, allowing one run.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Hill walked the only batter he faced, and threw a wild pitch.
That’s four total batters faced, and nobody retired, and just five strikes among his 19 pitches in his Angels career. Hill is the only one of 477 pitchers in Angels history to not record an out.
Garrett Richards starts tonight for the Angels.
