LOS ANGELES — The Marlins claimed pitcher Joe Gunkel off waivers from the Dodgers, the teams announced on Thursday.
The Dodgers designated the right-handed Gunkel for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for the call up of Cody Bellinger.
Gunkel’s time in the Dodgers’ organization was brief, on the 40-man roster for 15 days. He was acquired from the Orioles on Apr. 10 in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The 25-year-old right-hander pitched in three games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, including one start. He allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits in nine innings, with six strikeouts and no walks.
Gunkel was drafted in the 18th round in 2013 by the Red Sox out of West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and in his minor league career owns a 3.32 ERA in 102 games, including 66 starts, with 362 strikeouts and 75 walks in 439⅓ innings.
