Today it was the winning duo of Tulsa and Rancho Cucamonga while Oklahoma City and Great Lakes took losses on Saturday.
Player of the day
Johan Mieses has gone 5-for-13 with four home runs and a double in his last three games. Mieses hit two of those home runs on Saturday as he tries to jump start a very slow start to his season.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers and Jair Jurrjens fell behind to the Fresno Grizzlies (Astros) and eventually could not catch up, losing 6-4 on Saturday. Jurrjens pitched 4⅔ innings and gave up four runs and eight hits. It was only his second poor start for Jurrjens who had pitched well in his last several outings.
Ike Davis hit a solo home run and O’Koyea Dickson hit his ninth, a two-run homer that brought the Dodgers within two but they could not catch up.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers pounded out five doubles and two home runs in their 9-4 win over NW Arkansas Naturals (Royals).
Johan Mieses hit both of the home runs and has now homered in three straight games.
Scott Barlow made his third straight six-inning start, he allowed two runs, three hits, and one walk. Barlow struck out eight, which is exactly what’s he averaged per game in those three six-inning games.
Kyle Farmer and Mieses each had three hits, Jose Miguel Fernandez had two hits and three RBI.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes scored just two runs but that held up for the 2-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks). Five pitchers toed the rubber for the Quakes and it was Andrew Istler who got the win.
Istler pitched 3⅓ innings and just gave up a hit and struck out five. Parker Curry allowed a single and then an error put two runners on in the ninth but he prevailed to get a game-ending double play to get his first save.
The Quakes scored both of their runs via two sacrifice flies off the bat of Yusniel Diaz. D.J. Peters went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons gave up four runs in the first and lost 7-4 to Clinton LumberKings (Mariners). Willian Soto was making his first start of the season for the Loons and in four innings, he gave up five runs and 10 hits.
Oneil Cruz scored three runs and went 2-for-4 with his third home run of the season. Errol Robinson hit his first home run of the season. Steve Berman had two hits and two RBI.
