LOS ANGELES — Dodgers right-hander Wilmer Font was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week after racking up the strikeouts in a pair of starts last week for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Font set an OKC franchise record with 15 strikeouts last Monday, allowing one run on just two hits in seven innings in a win over Sacramento. The right-hander followed that up with 10 more strikeouts on Sunday, allowing three runs in five innings in a no-decision at El Paso.
On the season, Font — who turns 27 on Wednesday -- is 3-3 with a 4.40 ERA and 2.73 FIP in nine starts, with a PCL-leading 73 strikeouts against only 11 walks in 47 innings.
He owns a 37.8% strikeout rate in 2017.
Oklahoma City pitchers have 219 strikeouts over their last 20 games, and on the season lead the Pacific Coast League with 434 strikeouts, averaging 10.1 per game. OKC pitchers also lead the PCL in fewest walks allowed with 103, through Monday.
